Benzoic Acid (Benzoic Carboxylic Acid)

Benzoic acid (CAS: 65-85-0) is the core basic raw material in the toluene oxidation industrial chain of Wuhan Biet Co., Ltd., with an annual production capacity of up to 50,000 tons. As the simplest aromatic acid, it appears as white acicular or scaly crystals, with a faint odor of benzoin or benzaldehyde. It can sublime when the temperature exceeds 100℃, is slightly soluble in cold water, easily soluble in hot water, ethanol and other organic solvents, and features stable chemical properties and is not easy to be oxidized. Benzoic acid is mainly applied in four major fields: ‌food preservation‌, ‌pharmaceutical preparations‌, ‌chemical synthesis intermediates‌ and ‌daily chemical fragrances‌.

Its core applications cover multiple sectors:

Preservation Field

It has excellent bacteriostatic performance in acidic environments (optimal pH 2.5-4.5), and can inhibit bacterial reproduction at a low concentration of 0.1%. It is widely used for the preservation of acidic foods such as soy sauce, pickles and fruit juices, and can also be used as a compliant preservative component for pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, tobacco and feeds.

Pharmaceutical & Skin Care

It can inhibit the growth of fungi and bacteria. For medical use, it is often applied to the skin to treat superficial fungal infections such as tinea manus, tinea pedis and tinea corporis, with the effects of relieving itching and repairing the stratum corneum.

Industrial Synthesis

It can be used to produce bulk chemical raw materials such as phenol and caprolactam, and can also directly synthesize various high-boiling-point, high-stability plasticizers for resin systems including polyvinyl chloride and polyester.

Other Scenarios

It can improve the gloss, strength and corrosion resistance of alkyd resin coatings, can also be used as a dye carrier for polyester fiber dyeing, and is also a key intermediate for synthesizing various benzoic acid derivatives and pharmaceutical active components.
